Here you get two views, a classic Exmoor valley or combe, looking south-west and the Doone Valley looking south-east. The south-west view shows the typical wooded hill, covered in sessile oaks, looking a bit like heads of broccoli in season.

Starting at the official start at Minehead, this stretch is the very beginning of the well-known South West Coast Path, with spectacular views over favourite Exmoor walks, such as Horner Woods and Dunkery Beacon. The section between Porlock Weir and Countisbury is mostly woodland and well-sheltered. Enjoy a lovely escapade in the country to stretch your legs, digest lunch or dinner, or just.. Lorna Doone Valley can be found just 3/4 of a mile from County Gate carpark - a stop on the Exmoor Coaster bus route. Disembarking at County Gate, follow the footpath heading south from the car park, down the hill. this path will briefly joining the Coleridge Way, then come to a road.
